THE collapse of a crane in Sydney’s northwest has alarmed Mosman residents who have lived with a crane in their street for almost five years.
An eight-storey crane fell at a construction site in Hornsby and sparked an evacuation from three apartment blocks last month.
Mosman homeowner Kylie Clarke said the crane, located on lower Parriwi Rd, was “a threat to the safety of residents and passers-by” and blighted the landscape.
She said residents were outraged that a landowner had parked the crane on council land on the street since June 2011.
Mrs Clarke had hoped for progress after her two-year absence from Mosman but found upon her return in late January that nothing had changed.
She said even returning tourists would approach her to ask why the crane was still there.
Mrs Clarke welcomed Mosman Council’s issuing of a completion order to try to get the development finished by February 2017.
Leonie Klaric, co-owner of the Parriwi Rd construction site with Robert Klaric, declined to comment.
A council spokeswoman said council issued an order for completion on the property last year which the owners appealed.
“On the basis of this appeal, the order was reissued by council and is now subject to a separate appeal through the Land and Environment Court,” she said.
The spokeswoman said council’s solicitors had invited Mrs Clarke to attend part of the hearing.
“Given this is an active enforcement matter, council has no further comment,” she said.
