PLC Armidale and Rocky River Public School are New England’s top performing NAPLAN schools in 2024.
An independent analysis of newly released 2024 NAPLAN results has revealed the schools which performed the best in the year 5 and year 9 tests.
Rocky River Public School, in Uralla, had the best primary results of any school in New England, scoring an average of 533.6.
The Armidale School in Armidale was the second best for the region with an average score of 524.8, while St Patrick’s Primary School in Walcha was the third best with an average score of 523.2.
The top performing secondary school was PLC Armidale, in Armidale, where the average result was 605.2.
“We are incredibly proud of our College NAPLAN results,” principal Nicola Taylor said.
“With an above-average participation rate and our low student-to-staff ratio, this achievement reflects the all-girls advantage, dedicated, passionate educators, hardworking committed students and a strong culture of learning at the College.
“Our holistic approach to education combines academic rigour with character growth and learning in and outside the classroom.
“These results validate our approach. A personalised approach to learning, visible pastoral care, and the academic endeavour of each student support the achievement of individual learning goals.
“As a learning community, the strength of connections, students with peers, teachers with students and families with the school supports each girl’s progress in their education journey.”
The Armidale School in Armidale was the second best for the region with an average score of 590.0, while Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School in Calala was the third best with an average score of 582.0.
To determine how each school performed in 2024, the scores for all five test subjects for the student cohort (year 5 or year 9) were combined and the average found.
Special schools, schools with fewer than 20 students enrolled, and schools that did not report any results for NAPLAN subjects were excluded from the analysis.
The figures were independently compiled from the federal government’s MySchool website.
