Vivid Sydney program launched with Luna Park, Taronga Zoo, May Gibbs in spotlight
VIVID Sydney’s dazzling Light Walk will extend to new precinct, Luna Park, for the first time, with a large-scale projection on its facade of New York’s Coney Island, among other displays for the lower north shore.

THE lower north shore will be treated to several light-tastic options when popular light, music and ideas festival Vivid Sydney returns in May.
Local sites include a spectacular new precinct at Luna Park and returning perennial favourite Taronga Zoo.
The 2018 festival celebrates 10 years of creativity and innovation.
At the program’s launch, Tourism and Major Events Minister Adam Marshall encouraged people to start planning their visits to venues early to gain the most from this year’s exciting line-up.
“Over 23 nights from Friday, May 25, to Saturday, June 16, Vivid Sydney will paint the harbour city in the colour and spectacle of Vivid Light, take over Sydney stages with Vivid Music’s electric performances and collaborations, and provide a global forum for thought-provoking debate and creative discussion at Vivid Ideas,” Mr Marshall said.
At Milsons Point, Vivid Sydney’s dazzling Light Walk will extend to new precinct Luna Park for the first time.
The iconic amusement park will come alive with a large-scale projection on its facade of New York’s Coney Island.
The show will celebrate the history, magic, creativity, engineering, fantasy and imagination that have combined to create millions of memories at the site.
In Mosman, Taronga Zoo will feature a whole new family of fierce, fantastic, quirky and endearing species for its Lights for the Wild display.
Visitors will discover some new spectacular animal light sculptures and learn how Taronga is working to help save 10 species from extinction in the next 10 years.
The famed work of May Gibbs, whose house museum is in Neutral Bay, will feature on the facade of Customs House at Circular Quay.
In celebration of their centenary, Gibbs’ much-loved characters Snugglepot and Cuddlepie and their stalwart companions will come to life on the building.
Renowned Australian film and television actor Noni Hazlehurst, beloved by Play School devotees, will narrate the whimsical piece.
