Police are making an urgent public appeal to find a man who may help assist with a historical armed robbery which happened in Sydney’s north 14 years ago.
Before 8am on April 22 2011, officers from the Northern Beaches Police Area Command were called to a service station on Pittwater Rd, Narrabean after receiving reports of an armed robbery.
Police were told a man had entered the service station, armed with a sawn-off rifle and threatened a 20-year-old male staff member.
The man took some cash before fleeing the scene and was last spotted running west along Robertson St.
No one was reported injured at the time.
He was described as being of Caucasian appearance, 170cm tall, medium build, about 25-years-old, short spikey dark coloured hair and a tattoo of some barbed wire on his right upper arm.
At the time of the armed robbery, he was wearing a white cap, brown coloured jumper with red patterns on the sleeves, light blue track pants, blue/black coloured gloves and dark coloured shoes.
Police later found some of these clothing items on The Esplanade, and despite this discovery, they were unable to locate the man at the time.
Now, 14 years later police have reopened the case after receiving fresh information, with Northern Beaches Police Area Command, Crime Manager, Inspector Mick Boutouridis urging the public for assistance.
“Today marks the 14th anniversary of when the holdup occurred and we are asking for help from the public,” Inspector Boutouridis said.
“Despite the passage of time we never give up on trying to solve serious offences especially when a firearm is produced.
“As part of our investigation into this incident we have released images of a man who may be able to assist with our inquiries.
“Someone must know something about this case, and we are calling on anyone who knows anything to call Manly Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
