Newly re-elected MP Trent Zimmerman has two key promises to fulfil this term: North Sydney Olympic Pool and Sub Base Platypus.

Mr Zimmerman was returned to North Sydney in the federal election and alongside Liberal party policies, he fought his campaign on promises for the two key harbourside assets.

North Sydney Olympic Pool is in need of a major upgrade and he a secured a $10 million election promise for the works.

“This will be delivered,” Mr Zimmerman said.

“I encourage the state government to now make a similar commitment to ensure this iconic pool doesn’t face the threat of closure.”

During the campaign he also indicated his commitment to the completion of the transformation of former Navy base Sub Base Platypus at North Sydney.

This is under the management of the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust and it is finalising plans for the next stage of works.

Meanwhile, the latest count figures as of Friday afternoon show there was a 3.49 per cent swing against the Liberal party in North Sydney on a two party preferred basis with a total margin of over 60 per cent.

Mr Zimmerman said he was pleased his primary vote increased at the election but noted the two party preferred vote declined, which meant he got less preferences than the last election.

“The swing is similar to that which has occurred in the neighbouring seat of Bradfield and obviously a lot less than in Warringah,” Mr Zimmerman said.

“I will continue to work hard for our local community and was buoyed by the positive feedback I received from voters.

“There are obviously some issues of concern to voters like climate change and I have argued we need to do more to explain to the community what we are doing to achieve our Paris Agreement targets. This is an important issue for me as I know it is for our community.”

Labor candidate Brett Stone was pleased with the results in North Sydney describing it as a “noticeable” swing towards his party. The figures represent an 8.2 per cent boost to the Labor primary vote.

“With these figures, North Sydney has achieved one of the highest swings towards Labor in NSW,” Mr Stone said.

“More North Sydney voters than usual identified with our message at this Federal election.”
