More than a thousand children are expected to flood into one Mosman street on Halloween, which has become the best trick or treat spot on the lower north shore.

Mosman is preparing for an invasion of ghastly ghouls and wicked witches this Halloween.

The best houses for trick or treating are on Holt Ave and Spencer St, and more than a thousand children are expected to turn up on the hunt for free candy.

Families are transforming their homes into a fright fest and dad Andrew Scott described the fun night as extraordinary.

“Every year it feels like the whole of the north shore converges on our street,” Mr Scott said.

“The street shuts down. When we run out of lollies we take a trip to Woolies to reload.”

Not everyone on the street takes part and a few houses close up for the night. Mr Scott said the majority of residents really enjoy it and get into the Halloween spirit by decorating their homes and welcoming trick or treaters.

The influx of children starts straight after school at about 3.30pm and many parents also come along with bags of lollies to refill the pots of treats laid out for the little ones.

Mr Scott’s advice is to get there early to avoid disappointment, dress up and have fun.

Mosman Councillor Jacqui Willoughby said the local Halloween experience started in Holt Ave and has spread to other streets in the area.

Most of the lollies are gone by 5pm at the latest and she encouraged parents to thank homeowners for providing free sweets.

“It’s lovely for kids,” Cr Willoughby said.

“Previously there have been buses that bussed children in from other suburbs to have the big Halloween experience.

“I encourage mums to acknowledge the homeowner and say thanks.”

Neutral Bay Public School is also hosting a free Halloween Carnival from 4pm and there is lots of Halloween fun at Luna Park.
