Mosman becomes the first suburb in Australia to get its own version of the famous Monopoly game
A SYDNEY beachside enclave famous for its lavish property is to become the first Australian suburb to get its own version of Monopoly.

NOW you can play the Mosman property market at a very attractive price with the release of a special Monopoly edition just in time for Christmas.
Mark Alderson of the Rotary Club of Mosman came up with the idea during a meeting of Mosman volunteer groups last year.
“We were trying to find a way of getting Mosman people talking together more,” he said. “I had an idea — why not have a game or something — then I thought of Monopoly.”
Mr Alderson is co-ordinating the project and hopes Rotary can raise $60,000 to be put back into community organisations. He will finalise everything in the next three weeks.
Mr Alderson said Rotary was seeking support from 10 Mosman businesses to underwrite the cost of production.
“As far as I know, no one has done a Monopoly for a specific suburb like this in Australia,” he said.
“There will be a lot of things that people don’t know about Mosman; secret information that people weren’t aware of, so it’s fun to play the game.”
The company producing Mosman Monopoly is Winning Moves, which manufactures licensed and custom editions of board games.
Mr Alderson said Mosman Monopoly so far would include the Balmoral Beach rotunda, Bendigo Bank money and Mosman Council, which contributed $5000 towards the project.
“We want Mosmanites to be able to advance tokens to their own iconic landmarks in their own game,” he said.
Winning Moves will also produce a Mosman card game, like snap, to coincide with Mosman Monopoly. The cards will feature Mosman Camera Club photographs of 50 “secret” Mosman locations.

GET ON BOARD
IF there’s one thing that unites all Mosman residents it’s property. Our glistening harbourside gem features some of the most lavish and expensive homes in Australia, so it’s only fitting that it becomes the first suburb to get its own game.
But what local landmarks should be included on that iconic board? We have a few suggestions.
On those two most prized blocks — taken by Mayfair and Park Lane in the classic English version of the game — we think the most ritzy streets on Mosman’s Golden Mile, Burran Ave and Hopetoun Ave, should take pride of place.
Sadly, Mosman doesn’t have any railway stations (don’t get us started), so those four spots could go to the new B-Line bus stops being brought in by NSW Premier Mike Baird.
Of course, we need our own player tokens. They could include a tree-killing kit, the infamous Parriwi Rd crane and the Joel’s Reserve anti-vandalism sign.
We’d also include a special ‘get stuck on Spit Rd’ Chance card: go back three spaces. And ex-Mosman schoolboy turned white collar criminal Oliver Curtis gets the first get out of jail free card.
