MOSMAN’S Pages & Pages is the first bookshop to sell the inspirational book hope which honours the creative talents and memory of a young equestrian star.
Talented showjumper Billie Kinder, 12, died in an accident while leading a horse back to its stable in northwest Sydney in late May.
Her family wanted to inspire and give hope to others by publishing a collection of Billie’s heartfelt poems, narratives and artwork.
Danny Mayson-Kinder, Billie’s mother, said her daughter had an unbelievable way of helping and inspiring other children.
Mrs Mayson-Kinder said the emotive, uplifting hope illustrated Billie’s amazing gifts of empathy and insight and appealed to all ages.
“I really believe that through her words hope can make a difference to others,” she said.
“Children seem to love it; it seems to bridge that gap for parents to talk to their children because some of the things Billie writes about are a little bit deeper.
“So it helps parents discuss those ideas with children through Billie’s words.
“Some of the schools that have the book are using it for ‘circle time’ to talk about issues such as death and bullying.
“And my dad — they are selling it in England — found a lot of older people are getting the book and they just love it.”
Mrs Mayson-Kinder said a friend was a regular Pages & Pages customer and recommended the store to her.
“It’s an independent bookseller with a really good reputation which always stocks something a little different,” she said.
Pages & Pages owner Jon Page said hope was a moving book.
“It’s quite a good, well put together book,” he said.
All donations and profits from hope go to the Billie Kinder Fund which donates money to Bear Cottage.
The charity provides palliative care for terminally ill children and their families.
