Dept investigating Beauty Point teacher accused of abuse
A Department of Education spokesperson has weighed in on abuse allegations against a Beauty Point first grade teacher.
A Department of Education spokesperson has said that a teacher under investigation will only be removed from the school if the school is unable to manage the case at hand.
The unverified allegations against Beauty Point Year 1 teacher Lisa Curvey include stepping on a student’s fingers, shoving young students, grabbing students by the wrist, pulling chairs from under them, pulling off and throwing a young girl’s shoe across the room, name-calling and commenting on young students “packages”.
Mrs Curvey is reportedly still working covering shifts for other teachers at the school. She was not given her own class at the start of this year.
It has been reported that numerous complaints were made by parents about Mrs Curvey to the school principal Janelle Warhurst throughout 2018. The issue was then referred to the Department of Education in October, after which the Department of Education’s Employee Performance and Conduct (EPAC) directorate started an investigation into the accusations.
An email sent to parents by EPAC in March said the investigation was in the “report writing” stage, after which a decision will be made. It ensured parents that the NSW Ombudsman is overlooking certain strategies to manage the case at the school.
The Principal at Beauty Point Janelle Warhurst was contacted for comment.
