NORTH Sydney Council is holding a public meeting to discuss the reclassification of a Crows Nest park for a $88.85 million development that will include a cinema, indoor sports centre and a carpark.
Hume Street Park has been earmarked for the upgrade and the council wants to reclassify the whole land to an “operational” status so it can be used for a wide range of purposes.
The council is holding a public meeting on the issue next week and is inviting people to attend.
“Currently the site has mixed status with some parts already operational and others classified as community land — for public use such as parks, fields and sports grounds,” a council spokeswoman said.
“The reclassification is necessary for the redevelopment of the site to occur.”
The planned park will increase the amount of open space bringing it up to more than 8000 sqm.
The first stage of works will include closing a portion of Hume St.
A plaza and pedestrian link is planned for construction between Hume St and Willoughby Road.
Funding of $8 million has been included in the current budget to progress the early stages of the park expansion.
Works are expected to start next year following DA approval.
“A long-term funding plan will be required for later stages of the project,” she said.
The public meeting is taking place at 6pm on August 11 in the Supper Room at council chambers.
The hearing will only address issues relating to the classification of land.
