New stations at North Sydney and Crows Nest
TWO office blocks and a strip of shops are set to be knocked down to make way for new Sydney Metro railway stations at Crows Nest and North Sydney.
North Sydney is expected to say goodbye to highrise buildings on Miller St.
A line of furniture stores and the post office at Crows Nest are also planned to be demolished to make way for the new infrastructure.
The State Government is compulsorily buying 17 properties in the two suburbs. The cost could run into the hundreds of millions to both buy the properties and compensate the businesses.
The buildings being purchased to make way for the station include 181 and 189 Miller St, the home of Drink Better Wine.
Co-owner Ben Murphy was disappointed.
“What can you do?” Mr Murphy asked.
Three Beans cafe is also affected and manager Ben Kortis said it was a shock. They have been told they have to be out of the 13-storey building by the end of next year.
“There’s nothing we can do about it,” Mr Kortis said.

The construction site at Crows Nest is proposed to run from Oxley St along the Pacific Highway and past Hume St.
Plans say the platform will be 25m deep.
And a second train station is to be built at North Sydney called Victoria Cross.
The announcement has saddened Peter Chrystie who owns the Proud Furniture outlet at Crows Nest.
“It’s going to wipe out Crows Nest as a furniture destination,” Mr Chrystie said.
“I think they’ve chosen a good place for a train station but they need to make sure they can properly compensate the businesses that are going to disappear and the employees that are going to lose their jobs.” Like the Mosman Daily on Facebook.
