A two-year-old boy was crushed to death when equipment fell on him at a sporting oval at Old Bar on the Mid-North Coast on Sunday afternoon.

A NSW Police spokesperson confirmed local police were told the boy was at the oval on Albatross Way, Old Bar, when a piece of equipment fell onto him about 2pm.

“The child’s father called for help with people nearby coming to assist with CPR, however, the child died a short time later,” the spokesperson said.

The grounds are known as the Trad playing fields and are home to the Old Bar Clams Rugby and Old Bar Barbarians Football Clubs.

Old Bar is a beachside suburb about 20km east of Taree.

Family members arrived at the oval just after 2pm on Monday with flowers but declined to comment.

Police will prepare a report for the NSW Coroner.
