A man is dead - and another in a serious condition - after a horrific smash on the Mid-North Coast involving a cement truck during busy peak hour traffic.

Shortly after 9am on Wednesday emergency services were called to Wingham Road, Wingham, following reports of a two-vehicle crash.

At the scene, police were told that a cement truck and sedan collided before leaving the roadway.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attempted CPR on the driver of the sedan but he was unable to be revived.

The driver is yet to be formally identified, but is believed to be a man aged in his 30s.

The driver of the truck, a man aged in his 50s, was flown to the John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.

As inquiries continue, anyone with information or dashcam footage of the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Wingham Road was closed for several hours with diversions in place along Cedar Party Road and Youngs Road.

It’s a busy road linking the small town of Wingham with the larger centre of Taree.
