A body that washed up on a popular Forster beach on Tuesday afternoon is believed to belong to an elderly swimmer who had earlier been seen walking to the pictureque location.

Police from Manning Great Lakes rushed to One Mile Beach just at around 3.20pm where they found the body of a 71-year-old man.

Two NSW Ambulance crews also arrived on scene but the man could not be saved.

A police spokesperson told The Mid North Coast News while investigations are ongoing, there does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the swimmer’s death.

Witnesses reported seeing the man walking to the beach earlier in the day, for his regular swim.

The spokesperson said an autopsy would be performed and a report would be prepared for the information of the coroner, and a post-mortem examination would be undertaken later this week.
