Two people, one a 14-year-old boy, have died during a weekend of tragedies across the Mid-North Coast.
About 3pm Sunday, emergency services were called to Potoroo Falls in Dingo Forest – 50km northeast from Taree – after reports a 14-year-old boy fell off the falls into the waterhole below and did not surface.
Officers from Manning-Great Lakes Police District co-ordinated a search for the teenager with assistance from police divers and Police Rescue.
The boy’s body was recovered from the waterhole at about 8.40pm last night.
His tragic death follows an incident involving a 59-year-old man died in a house fire on Saturday.
Just before 10am, emergency services were called to a unit on Little Street, Forster, after reports of a fire.
Upon arrival, officers from Manning Great Lakes Police District noticed a large amount of smoke emanating from the front door and forced their way inside.
The body of the occupant, a 59-year-old man, was found inside.
A crime scene was established as detectives and NSW Fire Investigators work to determine the cause of the fire; however, initial inquiries indicate there are no suspicious circumstances.
The two deaths will be investigated further and reports prepared for the coroner.
