A now-vacant block of land once home to Port Macquarie’s Melaleuca Caravan Park will be converted into one of the world’s largest fast-food franchises.
Mexican-loving foodies can begin salivating at the thought of their very own Taco Bell in Port Macquarie, with news confirmed that the American-owned franchise will be opening in early 2020.
Speculation about what the vacant site at 128 Hastings River Dr would become had been circulating on social media, but The Mid-North Coast News can now confirm the block, next door to Aldi, will become the 23rd Australian Taco Bell outlet.
A spokeswoman for Taco Bell said plans were in place for a ‘quarter one opening’ in 2022.
“We will look to employ around 80 team members for Port Macquarie, including four management staff,” she said.
“Recruitment will begin towards the end of 2021 and will be announced on tacobell.com.au/careers.”
It will be the American-owned franchise’s seventh NSW store, and 23rd nationally.
The primary use of the site will be a service and petrol station, including a 200 sq-metre convenience store containing customer service counter, retail floor space, office, store room, cool room, amenities, and service yard.
The adjoining Taco Bell will operate between 6am and 12am, seven days a week. It will also include a Drive-through.
Taco Bell’s parent company in Australia, Collins Foods – which also owns KFC, employs more than 15,000 KFC and Taco Bell employees.
Their NSW franchises are based in Newcastle, Greensquare, Albion Park, Blacktown and Ballina.
“With KFC and Taco Bell restaurant operations in Australia and Europe, our vision is to be the World’s Top Restaurant Operator,” the company states.
Taco Bell originated in Southern California, opening its first restaurant in 1962.
Founded by Glen Bell, it expanded from the entrepreneur’s hot dog stand called Bell's Drive-In in San Bernardino, California, in 1948.
The company now operates 7000 restaurants, globally.
