A man charged with murder on the Mid-North Coast complained of wrist soreness in hospital after allegedly killing 61-year-old Mark Tozer, a court has heard.
Connor Fuller, 27, did not appear at Port Macquarie Local Court on Thursday, where he was due to face a charge of murder for allegedly killing Mark Tozer, 61, following a suspected road rage incident at South West Rocks.
Police prosecutor Sgt Anderson told the court that Mr Fuller had been in hospital on Thursday complaining of “wrist soreness”. His matter was adjourned to Kempsey Local Court on Friday where he will appear via audio-visual link.
Police will allege in court that Mr Fuller murdered Mr Tozer at Albert Harrower Crescent on Wednesday night.
Emergency services were called to reports of an assault at the residential street where they found Mr Tozer with serious head injuries.
He was treated by police and NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being flown to John Hunter Hospital where he later died.
It is alleged the pair were involved in a road rage incident that started in the South West Rocks CBD, and ended up outside the address of Mr Fuller.
Officers from Mid-North Coast Police District are seeking information from witnesses who may have seen a white Hyundai Getz and white Ford Falcon with blue pinstripes “racing through the streets” between 6pm and 7pm on Wednesday.
Detective Acting Inspector Peter O’Reilly said the family of Mr Tozer are “traumatised” by his death.
“They are horrendously traumatised by the incident,” Insp O’Reilly said.
“They’ve lost a loved one in completely unexpected circumstances, so they’re heavily traumatised.
“This man suffered significant head trauma which resulted in his death.
“A 27-year-old man has been charged with his murder to appear before Port Macquarie Court.
“We’ve spoken to a number of witnesses who’ve provided us with statements that have been very helpful in assisting us to progress the investigation quite quickly, and enabling us to be able to charge this man with murder.”
“Investigators are reviewing information received at the scene which suggests the two males may have been involved in a road rage type incident. This may have occurred in the South West Rocks CBD area, and then gone down Mitchell St and Gregory St, down Albert Harrower Crescent.”
Police believe the two men, both from South West Rocks, were not known to one another.
A crime scene was established, which was examined by specialist forensic police, and officers from Mid North Coast Police District commenced an investigation.
Mr Fuller was arrested and taken to Kempsey Police Station, where he has been refused bail.
He will reappear at Kempsey Local Court on Friday.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident remain ongoing.
