An angry driver acted in a “completely inappropriate” way at a Mid-North Coast bike track – getting behind the wheel of his huge Dodge Ram ute, running another man into the kerb then advancing on him on foot.

Ryan John Williams appeared before Magistrate Sharon Crews in Taree Local Court on Tuesday, pleading guilty to stalking/intimidating intending to cause fear of physical or mental harm.

“You are very lucky not to be charged with menacing driving,” Ms Crews said.

Defence lawyer Gus Farland told the court Williams was approaching his 40th birthday and had never been to court.

Ms Crews said his client was a “big man” and it can work against him because he “appears more intimidating than he intends because of his size”.

Mr Farland told the court Williams was angered by a perceived assault at a local bike and jump track on the afternoon of October 2.

“Police are looking at that,” Ms Crews said.

“That is what he believes, but it is his response that is completely inappropriate – regardless of what he believes.”

Williams approached a man who drove off and Williams followed in his large Dodge ute.

The court has been told Williams tailgated the man’s car, overtook and abruptly cut in front of him.

Police obtained CCTV footage from a resident and it clearly showed Williams’ driving caused the victim to swerve in his vehicle and hit the kerb to avoid a collision, the court was told.

The man then got out of his car and Williams advanced on him on foot as the victim walked backwards several car lengths.

Police were later contacted by both Williams and the victim.

Officers attended Williams’ home and told him he could end up facing menacing driving charges.

He “verbally exploded”, said he should not have called the police, he knew where the victim lived and would “sort it out myself”.

Officers feared Williams would act on the threats.

Police documents indicate the “original background incident” is still under investigation.

Williams was convicted and placed on a 12-month conditional release order.
