A man in his 30s is in a stable condition at John Hunter Hospital after he was involved in a three-car crash at The Lakes Way.
He was one of three drivers who were injured in the crash yesterday afternoon, but was the only one to be airlifted by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
According to NSW Ambulance, the other two drivers involved in the accident escaped relatively uninjured.
The man was stabilised on-site before being transferred to John Hunter - with shoulder and suspected leg injuries - where he remains.
As well as paramedic and police, Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) also attended the scene.
A rescue tanker was sent from Forster after reports of a possible fire resulting from the crash - however, FRNSW confirmed there was no fire and the excessive smoke was likely due to one of the exhaust or airbags from one of the vehicles.
Firefighters instead worked to remove one of the drivers who’s vehicle had crumpled on top of them.
This complicated entrapment job used specialised tools which cut the vehicle away from the driver, freeing them about an hour after the crash happened.
