A teenage driver has told police he lost control of his car during recent wet weather before smashing into the front of a Port Macquarie business.
The 19-year-old was driving a white 2000 Holden Commodore with red p plates around the William/Short St roundabout on a wet evening last week when he lost control of the car.
He mounted the footpath and collided with the front door of Raine & Horne Port Macquarie.
While the driver and car escaped with little to no damages, the same can’t be said of the local real estate office.
The glass and metal sections that make up the business’s shopfront – including two side panels, the two front doors, and the entire metal frame supporting them – were smashed in.
Local police and Fire & Rescue NSW were called to the scene around 8.40pm to assist.
The vehicle – which had briefly become stuck in the position it had crashed it – was removed, revealing the damage.
The young driver was breath tested on-scene, and returned a negative result.
He said recent rain was to blame, but police are continuing investigations in to the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Police say it’s a timely reminder to take extra care on the road, and slow down when it’s raining.
The local real estate is still open for business, but the front of the building has been temporarily boarded up until it can be repaired.
