Man drowns at Nine Mile Beach, Black Head

A man has died at a beach on the Mid-North Coast after trying to save his daughter from a rip, following a tragic few days along the coast.

A man has died while trying to save his teenage daughter from a rip at a Mid-North Coast beach.

About 3pm on Tuesday, emergency services were called to Back Beach, at Black Head about 25km north of Forster, following reports that a man had been pulled from the water unresponsive.

Police have been told the 42-year-old man went into the water after his daughter was caught in a rip and also became caught.

A nearby surfer was able to take the girl to shore. He then returned to help the man, who was unresponsive, back to the beach.

Members of the public performed CPR until paramedics arrived, however, the man could not be revived.

Officers attached to Manning/Great Lakes Police District attended and have commenced inquiries into the incident.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

It has been a dangerous and tragic few days at beaches along the NSW coastline with a Brazilian man drowning and another hospitalised after he embarked on a valiant rescue attempt on a dangerous stretch of Byron Beach on Monday.

On Sunday, a NSW police officer drowned after rescuing his 14-year-old son from a rip-tide at a beach near Narooma on the state’s south coast.

Drowning deaths are now at a ten-year high.
