A man is fighting for life after a horror single vehicle crash on the state’s Mid North Coast this morning.
The 32-year-old driver was travelling along Rodeo Dr, Tewinga, in a van when he veered off the road and hit a tree.
Emergency services, including local police, NSW Ambulance and Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW), attended the scene around 9am this morning.
The driver was trapped in the vehicle by his ankle for almost half an hour, before being freed by FRNSW crews.
He was treated at the scene for head injuries and a possible leg fracture before being taken by road to Coffs Harbour in a serious but stable condition.
The driver’s condition deteriorated while at hospital and he is currently in a critical condition and is expected to be airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital later tonight.
Rodeo Drive was closed to traffic in both directions for a short time but is now open as normal.
Police say the circumstances surrounding the single-vehicle crash are still under investigation, with factors such as speed and distraction being considered.
