A Mid-North Coast teen has been arrested after a very public display of alleged dangerous drunk driving - including burnouts and sparking tyre rims - near Port Macquarie’s Town Beach, on Stewart and Lord streets.
Thanks to numerous driving complaints from members of the public, police were able to track down the young driver they believe is responsible for the excessive noise, arresting him around 9pm on October 21.
Video of the dangerous driving was captured by a disgruntled local resident, with the footage revealing a white sedan speeding along the road, performing burnouts and donuts.
The driver - a man from King Creek - seems to be showing off for a group of onlookers as he continues to speed even while down a wheel.
Sparks flying, the driver appears to have no regard for the safety of his fellow road users.
A breath test back at the police station revealed the man was driving while under the influence of alcohol, according to authorities.
It’s not clear whether or not drugs were involved, as police say the driver refused to provide an oral fluid sample, but officers involved have confirmed he was caught with illegal substances in his possession.
The teenage driver’s licence has since been suspended and he’s been charged with drive in a dangerous manner, custody of knife in public place, possess prohibited drug, and drive with mid-range PCA.
Port Macquarie Local Court granted him strict conditional bail, with the matter to reappear on October 26.
Police are taking this opportunity to remind drivers that this behaviour will not be tolerated and that severe consequences, including significant fines and court appearances, are very much a reality for wrongdoers.
