A champion Mid-North Coast cyclist who totally destroyed a car with a cricket bat in a jealous rage has had his charges dismissed under the mental health act in court.

Glenn Mathiske has been an A-grade rider with the Manning Valley Cycle Club for years and has been sponsored to ride in a number of high-profile events across Australia and overseas.

Now he has pleaded guilty to stalking and intimidation and destroying property.

The 48-year-old from Taree took a cricket bat to a parking area at Wauchope on January 28 to meet a man who had been in contact with his wife, the court heard.

A short time after the two cars arrived Mathiske got out of his vehicle armed with a cricket bat and started yelling at the other man who tried to drive away.

As the man was trying to start the car Mathiske repeatedly smashed panels and windows with the bat.

According to police documents tendered in court the car was so badly damaged it was written off.

The man had borrowed his partner’s car on the day and when she became aware of the damage she went to the Coffs Harbour Police Station the next day to provide a statement.

Court documents also reveal after the cricket bat incident, Mathiske sent the man a message saying “you ruined my marriage...now it’s payback”.

Mathiske appeared in Port Macquarie Local Court for sentencing on October 17, represented by lawyer Gus Farland.

Mr Farland asked magistrate Georgina Darcy to divert the matter from the criminal system to be dealt with under the Mental Health Act.

This request was granted and the charges dismissed and Mathiske discharged into the care of Dr Chris Larkin who will continue to monitor his mental health and effectiveness of medication.

He must also attend regular counselling sessions.
