A man with a “terrible” record for domestic violence has made a plea for bail as he fights charges of choking, kidnapping and false imprisonment.
Caine Jacob Collins from Forster represented himself in Taree Local Court last week in a bid to be granted bail, saying his family needed him.
Collins spoke of his contribution to the community as an oyster farmer and surfboard maker and said he could live at his sister’s place if granted bail.
But police prosecutor Brad Winter told the court the 41-year-old had a “terrible” history for domestic violence and that a fresh set of charges, related to alleged behaviour in March and April this year, were more serious than a number of existing charges.
“On every page of his record there is a domestic violence matter,” he said.
Collins is facing 13 charges in relation to alleged incidents spread out over the past year-and-a-half. He has not entered any pleas.
On January 27 last year it is alleged he choked and assaulted a woman.
Three charges of stalking and intimidation relate to three separate alleged incidents throughout February this year.
On March 3 it is further alleged he falsely imprisoned a woman, stalked and intimidated her and used an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence at Forster.
On a separate occasion he allegedly kidnapped a woman.
The offending is alleged to have taken place at Toukley and Forster and involved two women.
Magistrate Sharon Crews said there appeared to be a “strong case” against Collins and refused to grant him bail.
The matter has been adjourned to July 25 for a hearing.
