Covid-19: Mid-North Coast Health, MP debunk false coronavirus data on social media

NSW Health has warned residents of fabricated health data linking cases of Covid-19 to the Mid-North Coast.

'No idea' where COVID-19 will 'pop up'

NSW Health has debunked a doctored image appearing on social media that states there are four ‘confirmed’ cases of Covid-19 on the Mid-North Coast.

The doctored image, the origin of which is not known, has appeared on Facebook and to the untrained eye looks like the NSW Health official coronavirus information.

A statement published by Mid North Coast Health said the information is false, and confirmed that the region‘s Covid-19 cases remain at zero.

“Mid North Coast Health is aware of incorrect information circulating in the community and on social media regarding our region,” the statement reads.

“Please use only trusted and credible sources of information.

“There are NO COVID-19 CASES on the Mid-North Coast and the latest sewage surveillance testing is NEGATIVE at all Mid-North Coast sites. Regular testing at local sewage treatment plants will continue.”

Oxley MP Melinda Pavey confirmed the image, which she received from concerned residents, was ‘fake’.

“I was sent this image today as well from people in our communities who were concerned about the Covid numbers – it is a fake image,” Ms Pavey said.

“I know we are all keen to be on top of the ever-changing environment we are living in, but please do not share or take advice from social media posts which are not from NSW Health.”

It has been 470 days without an active case of Covid-19 on the Mid-North Coast.
