A man who robbed a service station while wielding a tyre iron, and was later identified by a former school mate when police posted a photo to Facebook, told the attendant he wasn’t a bad person.

Bradley James Rudduck, 35, appeared before Port Macquarie Local Court on Thursday, May 5, and pleaded guilty to robbery armed with an offensive weapon.

Ruddock entered the Ampol Service Station on Lord St, Port Macquarie, about 3.20am on September 19, wearing socks on his hands and carrying a tyre iron.

According to police facts tendered to court he told the 27-year-old attendant: “I’m not a bad person, I’m just going through hard times.”

When Rudduck saw how much cash was in the till he asked “where is the rest of the cash kept ?” and the attendant told him “there is no other cash”.

When the attendant asked him to just take the cash and leave the drawer of the till behind, Rudduck replied “I’ll bring it back, my car’s just there behind the bushes”.

Rudduck got away with $349.

Following the incident, police posted a photo of Rudduck taken from the CCTV footage of the incident on their Facebook page.

An old school mate recognised him and sent him a message then went to police.

Ruddock handed himself in to Kempsey Police Station on September 20 and has been remanded in custody since.

His matter has been adjourned to the district court for mention on July 24.
