Port Macquarie’s MacKillop College will be aiming for a rare state and national double at the Basketball Australia Schools Championships next week.
The school is sending a team to compete in the boys’ under 17, division 1 competition, with the tournament to kick off on the Gold Coast on Monday, November 28.
You can watch their progress over the five days of the tournament LIVE on KommunityTV. The team’s first game is on Monday morning against Melbourne’s Rowville College at 10:30am (AEDT). They will then take on the Gold Coast’s Hillcrest Christian College on Tuesday and North Sydney’s Shore School on Wednesday.

The team will enter the tournament in good form, with a large chunk of the 10-person squad having last month claimed the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges title in the year 9/10 division.
“We’ve got a lot of talented basketballers in that age group that have been together for a long period of time,” says coach Ryan Adams.
“Over half of them were involved in a team that won the NSW State Championships for Catholic Schools, so they’re a team that has been together before and we’re building on this for next week.”
The upcoming tournament will give the team the opportunity to build on their state title and further develop combinations in order as they compete with the best schools across the country.
“Everyone’s excited and ready to go. We’ve been training hard, building up after the state championships and we’re really looking forward to testing ourselves against some of those top schools around the rest of Australia,” says Adams.
With games scheduled for every day of tournament, Adams says the key will be to use all players in the squad.
“We’ve got a deep squad, so we’ll be looking to utilise all 10 players. The schedule looks quite good – there’s one game on the Monday, one on the Tuesday and two on the Wednesday – so that will play to our advantage.”
