Artist Nathan Paddison from Tinonee pleads not guilty to domestic violence choking in Taree court

A world-renowned artist now living on the Mid-North Coast has appeared in Taree Local Court charged with choking a woman.
Nathan Paddison is pleading not guilty to intentionally choking a person without consent at Tinonee on the afternoon of August 27 last year.
Paddison has held solo exhibitions at galleries across the region, including Newcastle, Gosford and the Manning Regional Gallery.
His work has also been exhibited in galleries worldwide and auctioned at Sotheby’s.
He has been a finalist and winner in several prestigious art awards and in 2021 was announced by Newcastle Art Gallery as the winner of the People’s Choice award in the Kilgour Prize.
His art has been described as experiential, raw and drawn from a troubled past. He uses a range of mediums such as acrylics, enamel, fabric, newspaper, marker and pastels.
Paddison currently lives at Tinonee – a small historic village near Taree, according to documents tendered to Taree Local Court.
The choking charge relates to an alleged incident at Tinonee between 12.30pm and 12.40pm on August 27 last year.
Paddison has also been charged with two other domestic violence related offences – destroying/damaging property and stalking with intent to cause fear of physical harm.
He has pleaded guilty to these charges relating to two incidents at Maroubra – stalking/intimidating on April 11 and destroying property on April 9 this year.
Paddison is on bail and the case has been adjourned to Taree Local Court on November 23.
