Alessio Fiumara pleads guilty in Port Macquarie court to meth, cocaine, assault charges

A Mid-North Coast barber guilty of a list of drug and firearm offences bashed a man on the street and later claimed he wasn’t in town at the time. Here’s what happened in court.

A Port Macquarie barber guilty of a list of drug and firearm offences bashed a man on the street and later claimed he wasn’t in town at the time.

Alessio Fiumara appeared in Port Macquarie Local Court on Wednesday.

He pleaded guilty to a range of offences including assault occasioning actual bodily harm in the company of others.

The 37-year-old was in the company of another man when they approached a small group of men near the Commonwealth Bank on Horton St about 12.30am on April 15, according to police facts.

There was an altercation between the two groups and Fiumara punched another man in the back of the head and kicked him in the body before he hit the ground.

He then kicked the man in the head three times as he lay on the ground. Fiumara walked away but returned and punched the victim in the face, the facts state.

The victim suffered cuts on his scalp and lip and bruising across his face.

The incident was caught on a security camera and it depicted Fiumara dressed in distinctive clothing including a Nike cap and shoes and grey shorts with red stripes, the facts state.

When officers attended his home to ask about the incident, Fiumara initially claimed he was in Sydney at the time and didn’t know where Horton St was, but officers found the distinctive clothing and charged him.

Travelling at high speed towards Wauchope

About 3am on May 14, patrolling police noticed a black Mitsubishi Lancer travelling at high speed towards Wauchope.

Officers pulled the car over and found Fiumara in the driver seat, with a passenger on-board.

Fiumara said they had been at the gym, but the passenger said they had been playing the pokies, according to police.

Fiumara was found to have methamphetamines in his system and was charged with driving with illicit drugs in his system – second offence.

Claimed meth and cocaine in bag for personal use

Fiumara was pulled over by police again about 7.30pm on June 23, this time at Port Macquarie.

When he and his passenger got out of the vehicle, officers found a small resealable bag on the floor.

Fiumara admitted to having meth and cocaine and said it was for personal use.

He was charged with possessing a prohibited drug (0.5 grams of meth and 0.9g of cocaine) and driving with illicit drugs in his system.

On a weapon prohibition order

Fiumara was previously dealt with in court for acquiring a pistol while subject to a prohibition order.

A search of his Port Macquarie home on October 22 uncovered a silver coloured pistol in a shoebox, according to the facts.

Fiumara told police: “It’s a fake gun, I found it”.

He was convicted and ordered to serve an 18-month community corrections order.

His latest charges will be dealt with on November 16, when Fiumara is due to be sentenced for three counts of possessing a prohibited drug, two counts of driving with an illicit drug present in his system (second offence), and one count each of common assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of others.
