A man facing charges over the alleged sexual touching and stalking of teenage girls at a northern beaches shopping centre has been granted bail.
Around 12.20pm on Tuesday, two 17-year-old girls and a 16-year-old girl were allegedly approached by Timothy Deramore Denver, 37, at Warringah Mall in Brookvale.
Police allege that Mr Deramore Denver began to film the “lower half” of the trio before he sexually touched one of the 17-year-olds.
It was alleged he “pinched” the girl’s buttocks while the group queued in the mall’s food court, Manly Local Court heard on Wednesday.
As the girls tried to move away, he allegedly followed them through the shopping centre.
The court heard that the girls allegedly had to hide behind posts to get away from the accused.
Police prosecutor Louis Parfait, who opposed bail, said Mr Deramore Denver allegedly told police that he “wanted a girlfriend” and that he “wanted to have sex” with the teenagers.
“Then he effectively chased them around the shopping centre,” Sgt Parfait said.
Sgt Parfait said there was a “degree of planning” in relation to the allegations.
Police seized his mobile phone for forensic examination.
The alleged sexual touching incident was captured on CCTV, the court heard.
He was taken to Manly Police Station and charged with sexually touching another person without consent, common assault and three counts of stalk/intimidate.
In a bail application Mr Deramore Denver’s solicitor Ian Byrne said his client did not pinch a girl’s buttock, but had “pinched her skirt”.
Mr Byrne said his client suffered from schizophrenia and was on psychiatric medication.
“He took some photos of the lower half of numerous underage females,” Mr Byrne said.
“There is no allegation of upskirting or anything like that.
“(There was) nothing sexually perverse about the photos.”
Mr Byrne said police also allegedly found photos and videos of females who appeared younger than 18 in school uniforms and swimwear on his client’s mobile phone. No charges have been laid in relation to those images.
Mr Deramore Denver has yet to enter a plea.
Magistrate Alexander Mijovich said the “young women had to go behind posts to get away from the accused”.
Mr Mijovich granted him strict conditional bail including order that he live with his mother at Terrey Hills, be on a 24-hour curfew and not leave the house unless accompanied by his mother.
Mr Deramore Denver is also banned from Warringah Mall. He will be back in Manly Local Court again on December 21.
