Brookvale could be set to experience a major redevelopment of Westfield Warringah Mall in a $20m proposal — which would see a significant downsizing for department store chain David Jones.
Developers for the project said the redevelopment proposal at 145 Old Pittwater Rd would result in plans to facilitate three future tenants.
A planner from the project said the proposed works are at the northern portion of the site, including works on the ground, first and second floor and the roof.
“The works are responsive to the future tenant needs which ultimately result in the downsizing of the existing David Jones department store,” the planner said.
“The key elements of the proposed refurbishment include one new tenancy on ground floor and two new tenancies on Level 2 including a co-working space and a gym.”
Among the plans is a new pedestrian bridge to the Level 2 carpark, a common mall walkway and the demolition and construction of a new roof with skylights.
The proposal pushes for the future gym tenancy to allow 24/7 access via a swipe card for its members, with staffed hours between 6am - 10pm.
“The operator of the gym will employ a number of security measures to ensure the safety of members,” a planner said.
“These include 24/7 onsite security within Warringah Mall, over 600 security cameras installed across the centre, and adjusted lighting through the car park to ensure a safe path of travel at night.”
“The proposal aims to respond to the current market demand … to provide space or non-retail uses, to improve the overall customer experience of Warringah Mall.”
Developers Scentre Group said the refurbishment works will introduce new business and employment options to Brookvale and will have a positive economic benefit to the broader Northern Beaches region.
Plans are on exhibition until December 2.
