A shopper spent two hours at a northern beaches mall while infectious with COVID-19, it has been discovered.

The person, who has since been diagnosed with the disease, is believed to have visited three popular stores in Warriewood Square shopping centre, as well as the food court on August 29.

NSW Health has called for anyone who was in Kmart, Aldi, Coles and the food court on August 29, between 12.30 and 2.30pm to be on alert for symptoms.

A spokesman said anyone in those stores or areas is considered “a casual contact of a case and must monitor for symptoms and get tested immediately if they develop”.

It comes as a second case has been reported on the peninsula this week, this time in Manly.

There’s another active case in Fairlight.

On the Warriewood Square website it said it had done a deep clean of the food court and all high touchpoint areas.

“We have also increased our cleaning roster since learning of the case, with additional focus on specific areas including; balustrades, retailer door handles, vertical transport, toilets, sinks, change tables and parents’ rooms, customer entry and touch points, information screens, as well as communal furniture throughout the centre,” the statement said.

“This will continue for the foreseeable future.”

It also said it was “making contact with each of our retailers as a precautionary measure as we have received no advice which indicates there was any risk to our customers or retail team members”.

“We want to assure you, the safety and wellbeing of our customers, retailers and the broader community is always our priority and we are continuing to monitor and act upon recommendations from our federal and state health departments,” the statement said.

At this stage, the advice from authorities is for anyone showing signs of an infectious disease, including fever, sweats or chills to see a doctor immediately.

In total there have been 167 cases on the northern beaches since the pandemic began.

NSW Health today announced that there are 13 new cases of COVID-19 diagnosed in the 24 hours to 8pm last night, bringing the total number of cases in NSW to 3,874.

NSW Health is treating 73 COVID-19 cases, including six in intensive care and three who are ventilated. Eighty-six per cent of cases being treated by NSW Health are in non-acute, out-of-hospital care.
