A man who filmed the “lower half” of numerous underage girls as they queued for McDonald’s at a popular Sydney shopping mall, has been sentenced in court.

Timothy Deramore Denver, 37, also pinched one of the girl’s skirts “in the buttock area” and chased three teens — aged 16 and 17 — while filming on his mobile phone at Warringah Mall in Brookvale.

The “fearful” teens had to hide behind advertising posters to get away from the Frenchs Forest man, Manly Local Court heard on Thursday.

Deramore Denver told Northern Beaches Police that he “wanted a girlfriend” and “wanted to have sex”.

He pleaded guilty to one count each of sexually touching another person without consent and common assault as well as three counts of stalk/intimidate.

The court had previously heard that Deramore Denver suffered from schizophrenia and obsessive compulsive disorder and was on psychiatric medication.

His solicitor Ian Byrne told the court there was no suggestion that Deramore Denver filmed up the girls’ dresses or skirts and that his client had grabbed at the dress of a 17-year-old girl, and not her buttocks.

Mr Byrne said a the time of the offending, his client was not taking his medication.

“He was aware of the fright he would have put into the young girls” Mr Byrne said

“Without minimising the offence, the sexual touching is at the bottom end of the scale.”

In a facts sheet tendered to court police stated that at 12.20pm on December 6 last year, Deramore Denver was seen filming the “lower half of numerous under-age females in the food court”.

He approached a trio of girls, from behind, and began filming on his mobile phone from about 50cms away while they were standing in line at McDonald’s.

Police said Deramore Denver then pinched one victim’s skirts “in the buttock area”.

“As the accused was filming the victims, they began to feel uncomfortable and have walked purposefully to get away from him,” the facts stated.

The teen trio walked to the opposite end of the food court, but he followed.

Police stated that the girls were so frightened that they hid behind a poster while he “continued to wait for the victims on the other side of the poster”.

The girls walked away and he began to follow at a “faster pace, making the victims feel even more scared and threatened”.

A member of the public alerted Westfield security officers who stopped Deramore Denver.

Police found five videos on his phone of “what appeared to be under-age females being filmed in the food court”, Manly Court was told.

One of the videos showed Deramore Denver’s hand touching a victim’s skirt.

Magistrate Robyn Denes said it was clear that Deramore Denver was not “properly medicated” when he committed the offences.

“The harm that was done to these young girls was significant,” she said.

Ms Denes convicted Deramore Denver of all charges.

She handed him a Community Correction Order to be of good behaviour for three years and ordered that he continue his treatment for mental health issues.
