The owners of a northern beaches’ nursing home want to knock it down — and build a bigger one in its place.
Thompson Health Care is asking the council for permission to demolish its 33-bed Seabeach home on Darley St East at Mona Vale and replace it with a “boutique” three-storey 51-bed aged care facility.
If the new premises get the go ahead it will employ 19 staff, instead of 12 at the current facility and will include an underground car park.
At the moment staff have to park on the street, but the new building will have at least 11 car spaces. There will be five parking spots for visitors.
In a consultants’s report to council Thompson Health Care said the existing nursing home was “antiquated in design and function” and was failing to meet “modern residential care facility standards and private health care resident expectations”.
“In this regard, the architect has responded to the client brief to provide for a boutique residential care facility of exceptional design quality to meet a clear demand for such accommodation within the area,” it said.
Plans include a “strolling garden” for residents and a number of subtropical gardens scattered around the complex.
The family-run Thompson Health Care, owned by Doug Thompson, has 13 facilities across NSW including another home in Mona Vale and facilities in Avalon and Terrey Hills.
