After putting out a call for nominations to name the northern beaches’s best butcher of 2020, the winner, which came after voting in our online poll, can now be revealed.
Readers across the region had two weeks to vote for their favourite neighbourhood butcher.
And the winner, from voting in our online poll, is the family-run Devitt Wholesale Meats at Narrabeen.
The popular outlet in Devitt St, across the road from Bunnings, has been up and running across four decades after being established by Allan Driver.
Allan died more than two years ago, but his wife Patricia and children Belinda, Kell and Ben are making sure the business is as popular, and successful, as ever.
Kell, the operations manager, told the Manly Daily that he, the family and the whole 20-strong workforce were thrilled with being recognised by the local community.
There are two sides to the business at Devitt Wholesale Meats.
Kell said they sell wholesale to cafes, restaurants, clubs, pubs, nursing homes and hospitals across much of the northern beaches and out to the upper north shore to Hornsby.
“But ever since dad opened the business in 1976 we’ve had a retail side too.
“People like our customised service. If they want a steak that's’s one millimetre thick or 10 millimetres thick, we’ll do it for them. Northing’s too difficult.
“Dad gave us a very good work ethic.
“About 90pc of our staff are qualified butchers and they are able to answer any questions and give great advice and cooking tips for any occasion.”
Kell said Devitt’s also has great product.
“Buying meat is like buying a car. If you go to the supermarket you get a Camry, you come to us you get a Rolls Royce.”
Kell thanked readers who voted for the business.
