There’s one thing that gets Remy Siemsen’s heart to beat a little faster and that’s taking on a team she once played for and who she and her Sydney FC teammates will face in their opening match of the W-League.

Sydney FC gun Siemsen said she is “beyond excited” to be running out against the Western Sydney Wanderers in the first game of the W-Leaue season at Bankwest Stadium on Wednesday.

“It’s been such a wild year with this bubble and pandemic so we are just so happy we are getting a season. For a while we wondered,’’ said the Belrose footballer.

“This will be a good game to start the season off. It would be nice to get the points.

“There is definitely a rivalry between us. It’s very big in the men’s game and carries through into the women’s game. We always love a good battle with them.

“It’s always a difficult match against the Wanderers. It does make your heart beat a little faster.’’

Siemsen was moved out of her home on the northern beaches and into a hotel prior to Christmas when the COVID cluster in the area exploded and restriction were put in place.

However Siemsen, who played a season with the Wanderers in 2018/19, was allowed a Christmas with her family before resuming training with Sydney FC.

“We were put in the hotel just in case weren’t eligible to travel but then we got the green light to go home,’’ she said.

Sydney FC will take on the Wanderers in the W-League derby at Bankwest Stadium at 4.35pm.
