Coach Trent Barrett is bringing in a big change with the plan for the players to have a lot more community involvement.

It is an initiative that both Barrett and chief executive Lyall Gorman firmly believe in.

“I know that’s one of Lyall’s strengths and that’s what he’s good at,” Barrett said.

“It’s a community club and no one is bigger than the club.

“I think out of the top 30, 29 of them live here.”

And Wednesdays have been earmarked as the time when the activities take place.

“The players are pretty keen to do that,” Barrett said.

“It was something we dropped the ball on a little bit last year.”

And Barrett has first hand experience of the benefits that such programs can provide after a couple of Sea Eagles players visited the school which two of his children attend.

“They couldn’t stop talking about it,” Barrett said.

“My kids know them but they were still rapt that the players were at the school.”
