SEA Eagles legend Steve Menzies may be 43, but he can still show footballers half his age how it is done.

“Beaver” made a comeback to the field on Saturday for the Warringah fifth grade rugby side in their game against Northern Suburbs on the back field at Pittwater Rugby Park.

The game had special meaning for Menzies, who finally fulfilled his long held ambition of playing alongside his brother Josh Gerrard, the Rats stalwart and club captain.

”It was something we have literally been planning for years,” Gerrard said.

“Since I started playing 15 years ago you always want to play with your brother and it was awesome.

“We hung around each a little bit trying to pass the ball to each other.”

Wthout his trademark headgear and still in great shape, Menzies really made a real impact in Warringah’s 47-19 victory at outside centre.

“Beaver” crossed for three tries and taught a Norths player a painful lesson when he made the mistake of deciding it would be a good tactic to run at the old bloke in the Warringah backline.

As team mate Ryan Trbojevich put it: “Beaver just cut him in two.”

And the Norths player was left sprawled on the turf needing treatment and feeling like he had just been hit by a speeding truck.

Menzies had a familiar face playing alongside him as the Warringah side also included his former Sea Eagles team mate and former Rats’ first grade star and coach Sam Harris,

Another well-known face in the “all star” team was former Rats’ first grade skipper “Mr Consistency” Ben Adams who played in the second row and could have been charged with age burglary after stealing every lineout throw.

Menzies has obviously got a taste for the other code and is continuing his rugby career on the international stage this week.

He and Harris flew out of Sydney yesterday to play for the Classic Wallabies in the Tens tournament being held in Hong Kong.
