SEA Eagles players have an extra motivation in tomorrow’s final game of the season against Penrith at Pepper Stadium- they want to repay their coach Trent Barrett.
“He is one of the best blokes I have ever met, I hope we can get a win for him,” declared prop Addin Fonua-Blake.
While it has been a baptism of fire for Barrett as an NRL coach, he commands the respect of his troops with the manner in which he has handled it.
“He has never doubted any of the boy’s efforts and in his first year as coach he has done a really good job,” Fonua-Blake said.
Hooker Matt Parcell said obviously it’s been a hard initiation for Barrett.
“This probably the toughest year you could ask for as a first year coach,” he said.
“I think he has handled it really well. I think he will be a lot better for it.
“To go out with a win would be really good for him and hopefully we can build onto next year.”
Parcell said there are a number of other factors motivating the team tomorrow.
“There will be a few boys leaving and this will be the last time that everyone gets to play together,” he said.
“You obviously want to finish the year on a high, you don’t want to go out and lose.
We’ve had a couple of losses in a row now so we want to finish with a win.
