WHAT a ride it has been for rising Sea Eagles centre Brian Kelly after arriving at the club from Gold Coast at the start of this season as a rookie untested in the NRL cauldron.

Now the 21-year-old has been identified as a potential future NSW Origin player after being named in Brad Fittler’s Emerging Blues squad along with Manly team mates Lachlan Croker, Jack Gosiewski and Luke Metcalf.

“When I made my (NRL) debut it all happened pretty fast and it was a dream come true,” Kelly said.

KelIy found out he made the Emerging Blues squad when a few club trainers congratulated him on Tuesday morning.

I said ‘OK, what is that for’ and then I had a look at my phone and there we go,” he said as the club unveiled the new Aussie Gems Cheerleading and Fitness Academy in French’s Forest as front of shorts sponsor on Tuesday.

“I am stoked just to be part of the program and what they are doing and feel very privileged.”

A year wiser with an invaluable season of experience under his belt, Kelly is looking to play consistent football for the Sea Eagles in 2018.

“I just want to hold my spot for the whole 24 rounds,” he said.

Towards the end of last season coach Trent Barrett sent Kelly to NSW Cup to work on a few areas of his game and he bounced back strongly on his return.

“It was what I needed to fix the little things,” Kelly said.

Fittler said: “I’ve brought these players in because they’re players I really respect and I believe they can learn a lot from the camp — both on and off the field,.

“These players will be the backbone of the NSW Origin team going forward.

“They all have a big future.”
