He might be the oldest man in the Nutri-Grain series but Kendrick Louis is proving age is no barrier to his success.
The Manly surf life saver has moved into second place overall in the Nutri-Grain ironman series after just being pipped for victory in the third round at Bulli on Sunday,
“It was an absolutely ding dong battle,’’ said Louis of his second to young Gold Coast athlete Luke Cuss after the round involving three shortcourse ironmans.
“Every time I looked over my shoulder he was there today. He’s class.’’

Louis, 29, won two of the three races to finish just a point off the round win at Bulli to boost his confidence ahead of round four on the Sunshine Coast in a fortnight,.
It was his first podium finish of the five-event series which kicked off with the Coolangatta Gold and was followed by a traditional ironman in Queensland two weeks ago.
“I haven’t won the Nutri-Grain series before. I’ve had a bunch of seconds so it could be a real goal now,’’ said the Manly ironwoman.
Last round winner Matt Poole leads the series overall.
Earlier Queensland Country Canecutters won the opening round of the Super Surf Teams League at Bulli from Scarborough Sunsets and the Northern Beaches Rays.
The second round of the Super Surf Teams League will be at Surfers Paradise on December 15.
