THE school holidays are far from over, but for most families, a return to work looms on the horizon.

In the spirit of family togetherness, we’ve picked out six activities the whole family can enjoy together before it’s back-to-work time.

1. FUN OF THE FAIR

Northern beaches company Our Little Foxes — which aims to help parents be more present with their kids — has organised a Fox Family Treasure Hunt at Luna Park, offering a series of interactive activities and challenges designed to get parents and kids working together. The main objective? Family fun.

Tickets cost $129 per family, including three hours of family activities hosted by Our

Little Foxes and partners, lunch, and unlimited rides for family members at Luna Park.

For more information visit the Our Little Foxes website.

2. TAKE IN A PLAY

The Sydney Opera House’s performance of Emily Brown and The Thing — based on the book by Cressida Cowell (author of How To Train Your Dragon) and Neal Layton — promises cheeky laughs for all the family.

Emily Brown is in bed one night with her brown rabbit Stanley when she hears a Thing outside the window and sets about trying to help him sleep. It’s not exactly straightforward.

Playing from January 4 to 15, the show is aimed at kids upwards of three and tickets start at $24.

For more information visit the Sydney Opera House website.

3. GET ARTY

Families are invited to the Museum of Contemporary Art’s Tatsuo Miyajima Family Space to create, play and learn together.

The space celebrates the artist’s work and invites families to get interactive by turning light in to music, meditate on a lotus leaf (yes, you read that correctly), and explore picture books.

The best bit? It’s free. But you’ll need to buy tickets if you would like family admission to the artist’s Connect With Everything exhibition. However children under 12 are free.

4. SAND IN THE CITY

It must have topped a million Christmas lists, but family fans of Lego can get an overdose — along with a whole lot of sand — at the Museum of Sydney.

Sand In The City invites kids and families to get creative building sandcastles and sea monsters and to create whatever their hearts desire from Lego, against a backdrop of a giant Lego coastline.

Kids eat free at The Governor’s Table with a main meal while attending the exhibition.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for concession and $30 for a family. Members and children under 5 years are free.

5. BEACH LIFE

From Saturday until January 29, Barangaroo plays host to The Beach At The Cutaway — an ocean made up of one million recyclable polythene balls, as part of the Sydney Festival.

Dive in and play and enjoy everything your imagination brings in this artistic alternative to the outdoor beach. Kids will love it.

General admission is $15 or it is free if you’re happy to wait in line.

6. SURF N’ SLIDE

Manly Surf N’ Slide (formerly called Manly Waterworks) is an outdoor playground of waterslides that will have the kids rapt (and sleeping soundly later).

The idea is that kids enjoy the slides while you enjoy a coffee. But parents can also join in the sliding fun too.

The cost is $70 for a family of four for an hour.
