Schoolgirl flown to hospital after being hit by a car at Frenchs Forest
A girl, aged 15, was flown to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car on Sydney’s northern beaches on Tuesday morning.
A schoolgirl has been flown to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car on the northern beaches this morning.
The girl, aged 15, was struck near the intersection of Warringah Rd and Forest Way at Frenchs Forest just before 8am.
NSW Ambulance acting Inspector Greg Marshall said the girl was treated by paramedics and the CareFlight rapid response rescue helicopter after she was struck by a Hyundai sedan.
“She was treated for a back injury and a possible head injury before being airlifted to The Children’s Hospital, Westmead in a serious stable condition,” he said.
“While she will need time to recover from her injuries, the outcome could have been much more devastating.
“This had the potential to become another loss of life on our roads and that would have been heart breaking.
“With kids returning to school and more cars on the road, we are urging both pedestrians and drivers to be particularly cautious today.”
The girl was hit by the vehicle on the southbound lanes on Forest Way, approaching Warringah Rd.
An onlooker at the scene described the incident as “terrible”.
“The schoolgirl was clipped by a car near the lights,” she said.
“There were so many paramedics around her. I hope she’s OK.”
“The helicopter also came and landed on the Forestway Shopping Centre car park, on the top.”
Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command have spoken with the 60-year-old female driver of the Hyundai. Inquiries are continuing.
Jenny Harris, who arrived to do her shopping at Forestway Shopping Centre shortly after the crash, described it as a horrible scene.
“There were a lot of people around and then the helicopter came and landed on the top,” she said.
“I just hope she is OK. It looked like a horrible incident.”
