A man held the tip of a large fishing knife to his heavily pregnant girlfriend’s throat at their flat before storming off with $4500 cash and drugs, Manly Local Court heard on Wednesday.
Samuel Francis Gale, 24, has pleaded guilty to attacking his 23-year-old partner in their Collaroy unit on May 6 after she wanted to take his XANAX pills away.
Gale, a landscape gardener, who is now in a drug rehabilitation facility just north of Newcastle, pleaded guilty to one count of being armed with the intention to commit an indictable offence and one count of common assault.
In a facts sheet tendered to court police said that his partner, who was nine-month’s pregnant at the time, had withdrawn $4500 from the bank to buy a car.
But the next day Gale demanded she hand over the money, she had hidden under a mattress, and his tablets of prescription drug XANAX that she had kept from him.
“When the victim got out the drugs (Gale) said ‘Give me all of my shit or I’m taking all your money’ before he demanded the cash again’.”
Gale then pushed his partner of 11 months on to a bed, sat on top of her and with one hand on her throat, he “used the tip of the knife to the victim’s throat”,
While the 22cm knife was at her throat, she called out for help a number of times. Gale also slapped her face twice before grabbing the money from her.
The woman then managed to free herself, flee the flat and call triple-0.
Police found Gale soon after, sitting at a nearby bus stop on Pittwater Rd. They found the knife up the sleeve of his jumper and the cash shoved down his pants.
While being arrested he swallowed a number of XANAX tablets and was taken to Northern Beaches Hospital.
Gale will be sentenced on December 9.
