ACTRESS and singer Melissa Tkautz said her first taste of fame left her so depressed she couldn’t leave the house.
The 43 year-old, who’s in the Real Housewives of Sydney cast, said she the “surreal” time when Read My Lips hit the charts in 1992 saw her seek professional help.
Tkautz, who also started in soap, E-Street and lives in Frenchs Forest said: “I did battle with depression at times, just because it was so full on so quickly.
“I had a very strict father and I just wasn’t allowed to do anything.
“I wasn’t even allowed to sleep at a friend’s place and all of a sudden, I am in night clubs doing appearances, walking down red carpets, cameras flashing in my face, people saying this that and the other. It was a lot to deal with.
“It was hard. I did go through periods where I became very introverted and I didn’t want to leave the house.”
But the mum of two said she isn’t worried about returning to the spotlight on Housewives.
“I know who I am as a person and I’m settled in my own skin,” she said.
Tkrautz refused to say what cosmetic enhancements she’s had.
“The one thing I haven’t had done is the one think people think I have had done and that’s my lips!” she said.
The Real Housewives of Sydney starts on Sunday Feb 26 at 8.30pm on Foxtel’s Arena
