Oliver’s Pies named Australia’s best seafood pie in competition

AUSTRALIA’S best seafood pies come from North Avalon.
Oliver’s Pies won the top prize in the recent 2017 Official Great Aussie Pie Competition.
Pie shop owner Daniel Roberts has a repertoire of 25 pies. He entered 10 in the competition this year.
“It’s the first time I’ve entered the seafood pie,” he said.
“I’s usually a special but now I’ll have make it one of the regulars.”
The traditional puff pastry-topped $8.50 pie is filled with smoked salmon and kingfish, white sauce, boiled egg and parsley.
The Official Great Aussie Meat Pie Competition originally began in 1989 to improve the quality of Australian pies.

The competition, the Official Great Aussie Pie Competition, has been going since 2012.
Categories include sausage rolls, vegetarian, best footy pie and non-red meat ingredients.
