A police strike force investigating alleged historic sexual assaults by teachers from high schools on the northern beaches has charged a female former teacher for sexually abusing a female student 40 years ago.
The alleged victim, then aged between 15 and 17, was allegedly abused for three years, between 1978 and 1980.
A woman, 67, from Five Dock, was arrested by officers from Strike Force Southwood on Wednesday.
Southwood was set up in July 2018 by detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad. Its aim is to identify and investigate allegations of sexual assaults and student/teacher relationships at high schools on the northern beaches in the 1970s and 1980s.
Police said the former teacher was arrested after she went to Burwood Police Station about 11am on Wednesday.
She was charged with one count of assault female and commit act of indecency (aged under 16 years), and two counts of assault female and commit act of indecency (aged between 14 and 16 years).
Police granted her strict conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on January 18 next year.
Former students have spoken publicly about the culture of alleged abuse at Cromer High School in the 1980s.
Allegations have also been made in relation to Beacon Hill High, which was demolished in 2006, and The Forest High School at Frenchs Forest.
Investigations under Strike Force Southwood continue.
