NSW finalists named in metro Restaurant and Catering Awards

The state’s top restaurants have been revealed and are now in the running to be named best in Australia at the national awards.

A SWAG of local restaurants are finalists in the metro Restaurant and Catering Awards.

The northern beaches has 10 nominations in 30 categories and also has one finalist in the catering section.

Parrilla Hot Coal Kitchen introduces “parrilla” or South American-inspired barbecue and rotisserie cooking to Avalon.

A finalist in the New Restaurant category, the restaurant takes on 10 high-calibre venues including Salaryman in Surry Hills, Anason in Sydney and Cockle Bay’s Hunter & Barrel.

“We are up against an impressive list of names,” co-owner Toby Bamford said.

“They are not all fine-diners, but concept-style restaurants.”

“Barbecue and grill cooking from South America is right on trend,” he said.

The restaurant’s best sales are ­rotisserie chickens.

“Our free-range chickens have accounted for 40 per cent of our business since opening at Easter,” Mr Bamford said.

The beaches’ strongest representation comes in the Indian/Sub-Continent category, with three nominations from 13. Ashiana in Manly, Seaforth’s Bijolias and Urban Tadka in Terrey Hills will take on the best of Sydney’s spicy eateries.

Dee Why RSL has Flame Dining and Aqua Bar & Dining in the ­casino/club/pub category. Other finalists ­include Hugos in Manly for best pizza and Chiosco by ­Ormeggio at The Spit and Cavallino in Terrey Hills in the informal Italian restaurant category.

NSW awards will be announced in Sydney on September 12.
