A MOTION to reintroduce a 24-hour alcohol ban on the East Esplanade Reserve at Manly is set to go before Northern Beaches Council.
Liberal councillor Pat Daley said he was prompted to call for the ban after reports that police and council rangers had to disperse a large number of intoxicated revellers from the popular reserve, commonly known as The Office, last weekend.
This year the drinking hours deadline for the reserve was extended from a cut-off of 4pm to 8pm.
“The 8pm cut-off time is generating both anger and frustration for those involved,” Cr Daley, a Manly Ward councillor, said.
“Some of these people are then moving on to other parts of Manly such as Shelly Beach and taking out this anger and frustration on public property and the general community.”
Cr Daley will introduce the ban motion at the December 18 council meeting.
